Deep Down In ‘The Hole’
The “Hole” is a bizarre place. It is the kind of spot that Joe Pesci would choose to stab a fella with a butcher knife. I am not familiar with southern USA, but this is how I would picture rural Alabama. Flooded fields, reeds, empty lots, abandoned houses, old cars and broken-down trucks.
Few blocks away from East New York Public Housing, The Hole is a small piece of land on the border of Brooklyn and Queens where streets have jewel names and no connections to city’s sewer system. The area is literally a hole. The ground lies 30 feet below sea level and only a few feet above the water table. The area is subject to repetitious flooding, making it the mob’s favorite dumping ground in the second part of the last century. The “Hole” was also the former home of the The Federation of Black Cowboys.
