Glenwood Power Plant
Between the Glenwood Metro North station and the Hudson River lies the abandoned Yonkers Power Station of the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad, a massive building which was constructed between 1904 and 1906 to hold electrical generators to provide power for the electrfication of the railroad nearby.
The plant ran into the early 1950s but was gradually backed down as newer, larger power stations plants were built and finally Glenwood was shutdown for good after sitting idle for years. After a failed attempt to sell the structure and the property to the City of Yonkers, ConEd abandoned it completely, removing its steam turbines and machinery from the pit. The property is under private ownership and currently for sale.
Highlights of the visit were crawling to the smokestack, contemplate the enormity of the turbine hall, play with the control panels and inhale some sweet asbestos fibers.

Awesome! Great shots. Did you go in on your own, or was it a sanctioned tour of some kind?
thanks. I went by myself. I will stop doing this whenever urban exploration tours will be organized.
Good — got worried for a second
impressive set! must have been a great explore!
LOVE this post.
I take the train from the Glenwood station right next door every day. For the past week crews have been clearing away all the vines and overgrowth around the building. I’d like to think that it means someone’s going to do something with this beautiful old building, but I’m really afraid they’re just making way for the wrecking crew. Haven’t heard anything, but I doubt it’d be front-page news.
Yea I went last week and there was a 3 person crew on a cherry picker taking out the windows on the northern building. There was some other large equipment and a mercedes sedan sitting next to the building.
