Bottle Beach
Dead Horse Bay aka “Bottle beach” is not precisely a beach where you want to walk barefoot. The beach is filled with thousand of glass bottles, old and new, intact and in-pieces. It is where bottles go to die.
According to the NY Times Dead Horse Bay “sits at the western edge of a marshland once dotted by more than two dozen horse-rendering plants, fish oil factories and garbage incinerators. From the 1850′s until the 1930′s, the carcasses of dead horses and other animals from New York City streets were used to manufacture glue, fertilizer and other products at the site”.
Later, Dead Horse Bay’s began to be used as a garbage landfill dump. In the 1950s a cap on one of the containers exploded, sending waste flowing onto the beach. Trash, has continued to cascade onto the sands of Dead Horse Bay ever since.

Such a good place to explore and great photos! Apparently there is an even denser “bottle beach” along the shore of the Edgemere landfill. I tried to find it myself but came up bottle-less.
how do you get there?
