The Atrium: Abandoned Palace in Downtown NY
After reading that this magnificent 9-story abandoned building will soon become a luxurious hotel called the Beekman Palace, I have decided to contact the developer to see if he would eventually let me in…which he did, after throwing him a couple of bucks. I have to say that legal urban exploration is definitely not comparable to the adrenaline rush caused by trespassing. That said, the place is located only a few blocks away from Wall Street and the area is under heavy surveillance these days due to the Occupy Wall St protests. Anyway, The Atrium was an absolute gem and undeniably well worth the “admission fee”.
Special thanks to my friend William for the tip and to Vinny for tagging along.

Awesome shots bro. Can’t believe I missed that staircase!
Wow, this is incredible. Forgive my ignorance but what was it before?
It was an office building commissioned by Eugene Kelly, an Irish-American multi-millionaire merchant-banker, and built in 1881-83 to the design of architects Silliman & Farnsworth
Hi Charles, great shots !… I wanted to ask you the same thing that Sara, so I’ve got the answer !
But, otherwise, does the front of the building is as sublime as the inside ?
front of the building is really nice as well, but nothing comparable to the inside. check some pix of it there: http://www.scoutingny.com/?tag=5-beekman-street
beautiful work.
Hi I saw this place in a videoclip from a famous rnb singer (probably seen recently on doobybrain but I don’t remember the name of the artist, a man fighting many warriors in the video shoot probably there)
Kid Cuti used indeed this location. Here’s the clip http://vimeo.com/28758414
